The city of Seattle, Washington's public utility site has a great chart showing the average energy usage of typical household appliances. Make sure you use energy cost for your region when trying to calculate the actual cost per month. The Georgia Power residential rate is approximately $.09/kWh before sales tax and without environmental/franchise fees.

If sun rises, state can meet renewable energy mandate

At a recent congressional hearing, Public Service Commissioner Stan Wise was quoted telling Congress that Georgia cannot meet a mandate to have at least 25 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2025.

Wise went on to say that other states would be able to meet the requirement, which may soon be imposed by new federal regulations, though he believes Georgia cannot.

ATLANTA - Energy independence was a pervasive theme throughout the presidential campaign season. For that matter, because of oil and gas shortages in the 1970s and the record price oil reached this summer, it's actually been a part of the nation's vocabulary for nearly 40 years.

Despite the continued rhetoric about a need to wean ourselves off of oil, America is still heavily reliant on foreign crude and far from being energy independent.
